lootylicious

watching the video of people looting in 'nawlins is great fun. sure, its disgusting that people are trying to take advantage of a shitty situation, but when exposed to wonderful highlights such as these, you just have to smile:

- a guy throwing a cinder block at a window and it not breaking. repeatedly.

- cops in a wal-mart, who are supposed to be stopping the looters, actually looting themselves.

- the reporters covering the scene stating the profoundly obvious..."what do the looters plan on doing with all the stuff they're taking. its not like they have homes anymore."

watching all of this has all made me wonder what i'd do in that situation. i think i'm above looting per se, but i do know for a fact that if i were stuck in the big easy with nothing to do, no food or water, i'd sure as hell try to find out the super secret recipe of the famous hand grenades.

I am tired of looters,as enjoyably stupid as they may be... LA Riots when they win a court case or a NBA championship. MD Riots when the Terps do something good, or lose to Duke.

Its sickening. Now looters are stealing guns to shoot at Rescue Helicopters. I suggest we institute that in Louisiana, if one is seen looting they are immediately sentenced to death.

Or, lets move the needy people, who amazingly have not become criminals to a safety military base and drop a bomb on Louisiana, it was sinking anyway.

I don't disagree with taking care of your family. Loot food, drinks, shelter, blankets, clothing to a point...but TV's and jewelry. You should've took care of your family by evacuating.

I say clothing to a point, there was a nice video of someone looting about 10 pairs of shoes.

Looters are taking WEAPONS! And shooting at rescuers or help. One idiot said that they aren't getting any help. Its been what 2-3 days. This will take time and lots of it. It will take longer if you keep shooting at the help.

I hate humans!

99 out of 100 looters have their own agenda, and regardless if they are stealing food/water, they are still stealing, and were stupid enough to both hang around and not seek shelter at the Superdome. There was probably more beer in Aaron Brooks' locker than on Burbon Street, it would have been the first place I went.

Reading stories of guys being shot as looters were trying to steal their boats is gargabe. They deserve to be shot.

Funniest looting item stolen...One case of A-1 sauce. What the hell are you going to do with that. I almost peed myself when Eric told me this. And how can you be a serious reporter, when there is looters behind you stealing cases of A-1 sauce. Don't you just give up and join in?

And I'm with Trevor on the fact that I would be looting the shit out of everything. I can't blame them.

My heart goes out to the families with young children who are in need of supplies, but the vast majority of the looters are looting for themselves, and not working to bring water/formula to the malnourished.

What I don't get is the liberal rallying cry that Bush has been late to the game in the effort, and should be back at work. What could the GW do from DC that he couldn't do from his ranch? Any insight would be appreciated.

Well, if nothing else he could be in DC to at least give the appearance that he is in his office doing all he can instead of still in Texas on vacation. And I may be wrong here, but I'd assume that the communications infrastructure in DC/the White House is more suited for dealing with this type of situation than whatever W has at home on the ranch. How's he getting briefings on the current status of things? Do his people have to fly out to Texas for that or are they just calling him on the cell phone? I'd think it would be a lot better to have your main command-and-control team centrally located in one place so they can all coordinate and distribute information easily.

if i remember correctly, w went to ground zero THE NEXT DAY.

it took what 4-5 days for him to get to the big easy?

i'm surprised he hasn't announced a war on weather or at the very least figured out a way to link the mess on osama's weather machine. but maybe the machine is actually of asian design and he'll finally turn attention to the nuke threat in korea.

still, i think its a little sad that this disaster is leading to a political brewhaha. and a racial one. its real fucking sad that in times like this, everything has to be scrutinized to the fullest and be cause for more separation rather than bringing people together.
